Tokyo-based tech company CyberAgent has created a new Game AI Lab at its AI headquarters. The new Game AI Lab was established as a joint endeavour by the company’s AI technology research and development organization and the AI Strategy Headquarters of the Game and Entertainment Division. CyberAgent plans to develop new user experiences and production processes in game development through the new department.
The Game AI Lab will also focus on generating game characters, animations, music, sound effects and graphics, as well as level design, voice processing and natural language processing. In May 2023, the brand launched its AI Strategy Headquarters to develop higher-quality content using AI. At the same time, CyberAgent released its own Japanese LLM. The company also states it has been using generative AI to improve advertising.
“LLM (Large-Scale Language Models), which has been significantly developed and expanded in use in recent years, is not limited to graphic generation and scenario creation, as research is progressing to make characters, which are the core of game development, behave like humans as AI agents and LLM agents. It is thought that the use of generative AI in the game industry will further accelerate,” says CyberAgent in a recent press release, translated from Japanese.
AI Lab to create better games
CyberAgent plans to develop more high-quality games and research game generation AI technology through its new Game AI Lab. It also states it is researching the unauthorised use of content by generative AI for the purpose of content creation. It also promises to attempt to create a fair and healthy generative AI market.
The company states, “Against this background, the newly established Game AI Lab will develop higher quality games, create new user experiences, research and develop game generation AI technology, and implement it in society.”
Generative AI in game development
Many companies are already using generative AI for game design. The NFT Gaming Company hired a team to develop AI games earlier this year. Additionally, Homa Games just released a game idea generator for game developers.
