VR Devs Can Now Remix 3D Models In Quest 2 With Masterpiece X

New partnership with Meta described as ‘the 3D creation platform for modern creators’, generative AI coming soon

XR development firm Masterpiece Studio is partnering with Meta to launch its 3D Remixing Platform, Masterpiece X. The platform allows Meta Quest users to create 3D media via 3D remixing. Billed as the 3D creation platform for modern creators, Masterpiece X lets users generate and remix 3D game-ready assets.

“Remix and animate 3D models effortlessly – all on a Meta Quest 2,” states Masterpiece Studio in a recent Tweet.

Remix 3D Models with Masterpiece X

According to Masterpiece Studio, creators often practice the art of remixing, creating content from other content without even realising it. However, remixing hasn’t always been an easy process when it comes to 3D assets. Masterpiece X offers users an easy way to remix their 3D assets.

Masterpiece Studio Founder and CEO Jonathan Gagne says, “Just like a DJ – let your creativity flow by transforming and remixing 3D assets to match your imagination! No more starting from scratch, wading through complicated tutorials, or waiting for inspiration!”

The platform includes a community library that features various existing models which users can remix. In addition, creators can remix specific aspects of a 3D asset, like the mesh, texture or rigging. Masterpiece X also lets creators add their remixes to the community library for others to use as starting points.

Meta Quest headset owners can download the app and edit and remix 3D models. However, Masterpiece X’s end-to-end generative AI functionality is currently in limited access. Those interested can join the waitlist for the generative AI functionality on the platform’s website.

Generating 3D Assets with AI

Generative AI is good for more than generating text and images. The tech also allows for the generation of 3D models and assets. Mobile and PC app, RealityScan lets users create 3D models from photographs. Similarly, Web3 generative AI engine, Orbofi, allows users to generate 3D assets, sounds and text for games and apps.
