Paramount and Gamefam Bring SpongeBob And Ninja Turtles To Roblox

The two iconic franchises will be coming to Roblox audiences with all-new experiences

Game developer Gamefam has partnered with Paramount Consumer Products and Nickelodeon to bring two popular franchises to Roblox.

Fan favourite franchises, SpongeBob SquarePants — the most watched animated series for almost two decades — and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be coming to Roblox. These standalone experiences are set to launch in Roblox later this year.

Gamefam has a track record for partnering with global brands and creating new and engaging Roblox experiences for gamers. As a large metaverse game developer, Gamfam intends to utilise its strengths and team of native Robloxian developers to create new immersive entertainment experiences which celebrate the much-loved IPs from the Paramount portfolio. Gamefam also recently partnered with Warner Music Group to launch Rhythm City on Roblox.

Considered as one of the most popular kids’ franchises, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic that debuted as a successful comic book series and has since gone on to become a hit animated TV show, with numerous live-action blockbuster theatrical releases. The Ninja Turtles have also hit the world of games before with the likes of the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge game. Currently a theatrical motion picture, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is in production at Nickelodeon.

Since its launch in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has become the most-watched animated series for almost 20 consecutive years. Its host of beloved characters, pop culture catchphrases and memes along with previous video games and Tony award-winning Broadway musical has created a loyal global fan base. SpongeBob is one of the most widely distributed properties in Paramount International history, seen in more than 170 countries, translated in over 29 languages and averaging more than 100 million total viewers every quarter.

Senior vice president of games and emerging media at Paramount, Doug Rosen said, “We are creating immersive new experiences on Roblox to let the millions of SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans inside these worlds play and explore alongside the iconic characters they know and love. Expanding both franchises to new platforms is a critical part of our gaming strategy and Gamefam’s expertise creating and managing live-operated worlds at scale makes them an ideal partner for us to connect audiences with our content on Roblox.

Metaverse audiences

Chief business officer at Gamefam, Ricardo Briceno also commented on the partnership saying, “We are honoured to partner with Paramount to bring these iconic properties to new audiences in metaverse gaming, Globally beloved fan-favourite properties like SpongeBob SquarePants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the exact types of brands Roblox audiences engage with on a massive scale and Gamefam is uniquely positioned to make them successful on the platform.”

Roblox is frequently bringing new experiences to its players, with the ability to construct their own virtual worlds and play a range of user-created content. The platform has seen significant growth over the last few years. The pandemic rendered people stuck at home and Roblox became a great platform for users to explore and be creative. The title is mainly popular among the younger generation with nearly 80% of users being under the age of 16. This makes additions such as SpongeBob and Ninja Turtles a perfect fit for the metaverse title.
