Now You Can Fight Climate Change With NFTs

Ecosapiens To Launch NFTs To Offset Carbon Emissions

Climaverse PBC company, Ecosapiens, has announced its first project, which allows consumers to be rewarded for taking measures to fight climate change. Ecosapien will offer the first carbon-backed NFT. Each NFT will come with ownership of 20 metric tons of naturally sequestered carbon which is far more than enough to offset the average American citizen’s yearly emission.

“Our vision for Ecosapiens is to enable anyone to have a measurable and meaningful individual impact on returning atmospheric carbon to the earth, where it belongs,” says Ecosapien co-founder and CEO Nihar Neelakanti.

The upcoming NFTs will be released over time in small batches until reaching 10,000 in number, with the first batch of 250 Ecosapien avatars releasing in December. Upon completion, the NFT collection will contain a minimum of 200,000 metric tons of atmospheric carbon, which will be equal to reforesting a region the size of San Francisco. Ecosapien owners will have the option to add up to 320 metric tons of carbon to their NFT, increasing its rarity.

“Each Ecosapien grows and evolves in harmony with the owner’s commitment and reflects the restoration of life it has sponsored in the real world,” says Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer Garret Kane. “While we are creating something uniquely beautiful, we are also reimagining the avatar as a symbol of leadership and responsible action toward improving the health of our planet.”

The company states that the project will act as a foundation for its upcoming Ecoverse, a full-stack platform that will aid consumers in embracing sustainability and bringing eco-consciousness into their daily lives. The carbon credits within each Ecosapien token are verified by Sylvera, a lead rating agency.

Being Eco-Friendly in Web3

Ecosapien isn’t the only company in the Web3 space concerned about climate change. Ethereum became eco-friendly just last month while founder and former CEO of Unity is launching new climate initiative, Transition Labs.
