Squid Game Comes To Sandbox VR LBE Sites Globally

Netflix hit Korean TV series converts to Location-Based Entertainment at 40+ sites worldwide, with haptic technology and full body motion tracking

Streaming service Netflix is bringing its hits series Squid Game to location-based entertainment services by Sandbox VR. The series has over 265 million views, making it the most-watched series of all time. As of today (September 29th), fans can immerse themselves in the gruesome, high-stakes world of the popular series.

Greg Lombardo, VP of Live Experiences at Netflix said, “At Netflix, we have always been committed to pushing the boundaries of entertainment and we are excited to partner with Sandbox VR for the launch of our Squid Game virtual reality experience. By tapping into the power of virtual reality, fans can further immerse themselves in the world of this series with captivating and thrilling games they have come to know and love.”

Squid Games Virtuals Lets You Be A Contestant

With the Squid Game Virtuals VR experience, players can experience locations from the show in full-body VR. Players will become contestants and participate in intense challenges inspired by the series. Six players will compete against each other to become the last man standing. Challenges include games from the show, including Red Light, Green Light and Cross the Bridge, as well as all new challenges. Additionally, the experience adds to the series’ world with new twists. Moreover, each player will receive a personalised video showcasing their challenge highlights. The video will also include a recap detailing their personal Squid Game story.

Michael Hampden, SVP Content and Creative Director at Sandbox VR said, “During early development, we knew the key to this project was to bring the unforgettable thrills and drama of Squid Game to VR in a way that’s approachable and fun for fans. Working closely with Netflix, we designed new mini-games and adapted ideas from the series. The result is an incredibly engaging and social experience, unlike anything Sandbox VR has created before. We can’t wait for the reactions when our guests take their first steps across the glass bridge or hear the music stop in Red Light, Green Light.”

To experience the new Squid Game Virtuals experience, players must visit one of Sandbox VR’s 40-plus locations worldwide. Each location features a minimum of four holodecks through which visitors can experience virtual worlds. Sandbox VR utilises VR and patented motion-tracking technology to capture the movements of a player’s entire body. This, combined with a haptic system, offers a whole new level of immersion.
