Streaming giant Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix which Ubisoft describes as a ‘Love letter to the 90s’. The adult animated series was announced in 2021 and after two years of silence, Ubisoft showcased the teaser trailer at its Ubisoft Summer Forward Presentation.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix takes place in 1992 America in an alternate reality where the US is now a technarchy nation called Eden. In Eden, corruption reigns supreme and after being betrayed and thrown into a dangerous prison called Supermaxx, Dolph Laserhawk teams up with a group of outcasts for a series of undercover missions.
Remixing Ubisoft characters
The short teaser is a colourful and action-packed journey that’s filled with Easter eggs as well as references many Ubisoft icons. We see Laserhawk alongside an assassin from Assassin’s Creed, only this time the hooded figure performing the franchise’s iconic leap of faith is a frog.
And that’s not all, the teaser also shows the Rabbids from the Rayman Raving Rabbids spinoff games burst through a portal. We also see a Power Rangers-like group battling Laserhawk and can expect to see more Ubisoft characters once the series premiers.
In describing the show, series creator Adi Shanker said, “This show is many things: it’s violent. It’s a dystopian fiction in the spirit of the works of Aldous Huxley. It’s a spoof, it’s a satire, it’s dark comedy. It’s a love story. And as a descendant of Indian mystics, I can tell you it’s a philosophically conscious show you’ve watched in a long time.”
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is set to arrive on Netflix this autumn.
