Global platform for creating and growing real-time 3D content, Unity has introduced a new “Decentralisation” category page in its Asset Store with vetted solutions to support developers that are interested in technology that allows decentralisation in gaming.
Unity’s form of decentralisation is a model of ownership where players can create, earn and obtain in-game resources that they can sell and even trade.
The company’s dedicated page on the Asset Store will help interested developers find verified solutions that’ll allow them to manage digital assets, set up smart contracts, build on blockchain networks and more.
Partnerships
Unity has also collaborated with multiple companies as it looks to expand into the blockchain gaming industry and grow its VSP (Verified Solutions Program) including Solana, Aptos Laps, Altura, Tezos, Immutable X, Infura, Aikon ORE ID, Algorand, Dapper Labs, Metamask, Infura, Nefta, and Truffle.
Altura founder, Majd Hailat commented, “We are thrilled to team up with Unity and join their Verified Solutions program. This is an incredible opportunity for Altura to showcase our technology and bring the benefits of decentralised gaming to Unity’s massive user base.”
“We believe that decentralisation will revolutionize the gaming industry, and we are excited to lead this movement. Our aim is to make this technology more accessible to both players and developers, and our collaboration with Unity represents a major stride toward that goal.”
Entering the Web3 space
Unity’s move into Web3 is expected to accelerate the entrance of blockchain gaming into new markets for not only developers but gamers as well. The company’s VSP program will also bring together various trusted third-party SDKs, plugins and editor applications, with the aforementioned companies working with Unity to ensure that they are compatible with all Unity product releases going forward.
As the Web3 space continues to grow and expand, Unity is looking to bring its significant user base into the nascent space.
According to a Forbes report last year, Unity-built games garner around 2.9 billion monthly users and have amassed more than 5 billion game downloads in a month, making it one of the most widely used platforms in the gaming industry.
