OpenAI Trials Paid Subscription Service For ChatGPT

If you’re one of those people still on the waiting list to try the AI chatbot, the paid option could be a fast track to the top of the list

The company behind ChatGPT and DALL-E, OpenAI, is now trialling a $20 monthly asubscription service for its AI chatbot.

The ChatGPT bot has taken the AI scene by storm in recent weeks, showing impressive capabilities from writing poems, conducting research and even writing code. The AI tool has shown great potential and in many cases is coming back with factual and well-written responses. Of course, there are times it’s wrong, but still, the technology is impressive.

So much so that OpenAI has seen its projected valuations skyrocket and technology giant Microsoft is extending a multibillion-dollar partnership. The AI race has been kicked up a gear as others are taking notice of the buzz generated by ChatGPT. Mark Zuckerberg commented on ChatGPT and how AI will be a core focus for Meta in 2023. Google is also testing an AI chatbot named Apprentice Bard, which works similarly to ChatGPT.

AI services

ChatGPT has competitors looking for their own solutions and the servers are so swamped the company is now releasing a paid-for service. Anyone can use ChatGPT for free, however given its current popularity, it’s quite difficult to actually get a space to use the bot. For many, they are met with the screen that ChatGPT is at capacity and given an option to get notified when the service is back.

However, users with paid monthly subscriptions get special privileges and can essentially jump to the front of the waiting list. These users will be given priority access to the AI chatbot, even during peak times. The new plan is called ChatGPT Plus and is releasing after only two months after the original launch.

While the original service will continue to be free, the subscription service not only offers quicker access but also priority access to any new features and improvements. Initially, ChatGPT Plus will only be available to users in the United States. However, with how popular the service is, it’s expected that OpenAI will expand into other countries.
