The Premier League has announced it is partnering with French fantasy sports platform Sorare.
Sorare is best known for its fantasy sports games where players can buy, sell, and trade cards. Users are able to collect cards to form virtual teams with their digital player cards. By using blockchain technology based on Ethereum, players gain ownership of the cards.
Back in 2021 the company announced it had raised $680 million for its NFT fantasy football game and now it has secured an official partnership with the world’s most popular football league.
Sorare football success
This marks a major moment for Sorare as a four-year licensing contract with the Premier League has now been struck. Players will be able to collect and trade digital cards representing players from 20 top-tier teams and make use of them in-game.
In the past, Sorare has been backed by players such as Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. Last year Messi became a brand ambassador and investor to help boost awareness. Back in October, Sky News reported that the Premier League deal could be worth £30 million. Sorare now has partnerships with over 300 football clubs from around the world.
Chief executive of the Premier League, Richard Masters commented on the partnership saying. “The way that supporters follow their favourite teams and players is evolving. The Premier League is always looking for ways to engage with fans. Sorare’s digital cards and innovative online game represent a new way for them to feel closer to the Premier League. Whether they are watching in the stadium or from around the world. We believe that Sorare are the ideal partner for the Premier League and we look forward to working closely together.”
Additional rewards
In addition to the digital card game, Sorare players can also win exclusive rewards. This includes getting match tickets, or signed kits, there’s even the possibility to meet football stars. In light of the new partnership, Sorare has also launched some new features including league-specific competitions.
