It’s Official: Cheating in games is bad

Good news. Survey respondents prominently disagree with cheating in games to get ahead

As the world of competitive gaming reaches new heights, the repercussions of cheating are only going to become more serious and a Kaspersky survey has revealed details that show the majority of professional gamers oppose cheating and stand for fair play and healthy competition.

Phew.

Cheating is unfortunately something we experience throughout all competitive games, be it a real-life match of football, a sneaky player stealing extra money in a round of monopoly, or players in video games using cheats to get a win. While cheating in games can often simply feel unfair or put a dampener on the experience when it comes to cheating in esports, the consequences can be far greater as the online gaming esports community has blossomed, and now often involves huge cash rewards.

Kaspersky, the global cybersecurity and digital privacy company, recently shared details of a survey that highlighted details regarding cheating in games.

Our survey says…

The survey found that similar to other professional sporting idols such as footballers, 61% of esports players feel that being a good role model is a key goal. 75% of players agreed that playing without the aid of cheats will, in the long run, make them better players anyway. 65% of respondents stated that using cheats in a game is not ok to make your team win, in comparison 35% noted that they would cheat for their team to secure a victory. However, 70% of players agreed that sharing tips and tricks within the community is one of the best ways of improving game performance.

Gaming loopholes, which use exploits and are not technically deemed as cheating saw a near half and half divide in opinion, with 51% saying that they don’t appreciate the use of loopholes whereas 49% stated that using a loophole to get ahead is fine.

Overall for 84% of the respondents playing fair is deemed as the best option and 76% noted that using dishonest methods to achieve a win only highlights a player’s lack of skill.
