Our survey says… Legacy of Kain is BACK! Possibly…

Crystal Dynamics gives Legacy of Kain fans a glimmer of hope as it earns a fans’ thumbs up in survey

Legacy of Kain fans may finally be able to start getting excited, as a new game is looking more likely after Crystal Dynamics received a massive 10,000 responses to a recent survey that asked fans if they wanted to see more from the franchise.

The first game in the franchise came out back in 1996 with the release of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain an atmospheric top down explore ‘n’ slash adventure on PlayStation 1. In 1999 post Tomb Raider the series got a hike into 3D for Soul Reaver, followed by a number of sequels on various formats. It can be argued that Crystal Dynamics 3D gaming prowess at this point earned it the attentions of Eidos (owners of Tomb Raider) and is reason why the studio was subsequently bought by Eidos and went on to make the hit, return-to-form Tomb Raider reboot games.

There were three more Kain sequels on various formats over the years ending with ending with PlayStation 2’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance in 2003 and a multiplayer game – Nosgoth – which although made it to open beta in 2015, never made it to full release

Meanwhile the legacy of Legacy of Kain has lived on in fan’s memories with many hopeful for a return of the franchise…

Last month Crystal Dynamics released a survey asking fans what they would like to see if the series was to make a comeback and simply having a questionnaire based on the franchise made public was enough to fuel fan’s hopes. The survey itself asked various questions such as which platform players would prefer to play on or if fans would like to see a sequel game or perhaps a remake of an old one, there was also the option for a total reboot.

Time for more

And the results are in… And surprisingly the results of the survey showcased a massive response from fans. Crystal Dynamics and Eidos CEO Phil Rogers recently spoke during parent company Embracer Group’s earning call which was transcribed by VGC saying, “In the past, we’ve found that surveys typically get between 1,000 and 3,000 responses. but when we asked folk about Legacy of Kain, we received over 100,000 responses”.

“73,000 gamers completed it entirely. And if you are one of them, we thank you very much and we appreciate it was quite an effort given the survey was pretty extensive,” said Rogers. “Rest assured, we hear you loudly and clearly, and we’ll continue to update you on the ‘what if’ possibilities ahead for Legacy of Kain in the future”.

While that statement may not be an outright confirmation, it sure looks promising for Legacy of Kain fans. We’ve got all our fingers crossed.
