In April, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced the company’s plan to enter the NFT industry by the end of 2022. Recently the company shared a press release discussing its upcoming web3 experience, Starbucks Odyssey. Starbucks rewards members and employees in the U.S. will be able to buy and earn collectible NFTs with the new Starbucks Odyssey experience. Said collectible NFTs will let users unlock benefits and virtual coffee experiences. Consumers can join the Starbucks Odyssey waitlist now for a chance to be among the first to join the Web3 experience. The company plans to launch Starbucks Odyssey later this year.
“By integrating into the Starbucks Rewards ecosystem and grounding the experience in coffee, connection and community, we are entering the Web3 space differently than any other brand while deepening our members’ connection to Starbucks. Our vision is to create a place where our digital community can come together over coffee, engage in immersive experiences, and celebrate the heritage and future of Starbucks,” says Starbucks executive vice president and chief marketing officer Brady Brewer.
Starbucks Odyssey: Extending the Starbucks Rewards Program
Starbucks Odyssey will extend the Starbucks Rewards program and allow members to engage in virtual journeys. Said journeys will include interactive games and fun challenges. The new Web3 experience will also let users learn more about coffee and the company itself. Upon completing journeys, users will receive a collectible journey NFT stamp. Additionally, consumers can purchase limited edition NFTs through Starbuck Odyssey’s marketplace using a credit card.
“No crypto wallet or cryptocurrency will be required – making the Starbucks Odyssey experience a fun and easy way for members to access this new technology and claim an ownership stake in their loyalty to Starbucks,” writes Starbucks in a press release.
As users collect stamp NFTs, they will accumulate points. These points will unlock benefits like access to a virtual expresso martini-making class and exclusive merchandise. Consumers can even earn a trip to Starbucks coffee farm in Costa Rica.
