German automotive brand Audi has released a new AR app, which aims to level up the customer experience. Designed by Vodafone’s XR Factory, the app is intended to offer information and guidance to onsite users at charging facilities, beginning with Audi’s Nuremberg public charging hub.
Vodafone’s new app adds to the Audi charging hub experience by providing information on services, functions and available offers. Additionally, the AR app will make it easier for drivers to navigate the station with the virtual view of the Audi charging hub.
The app detects images from a phone’s camera and uses a 3D scan of the environment to determine the user’s location. The app then overlays information to aid the user. The app will be available at other Audi locations once it proves successful at the Nuremberg location.
The station includes a meeting room that drivers can book, a terrace and a lounge area where Audi customers can relax while their vehicle charges. Additionally, there are several workstations and snacks and hot drinks are available. There are even screens that display information from the station’s six charging points.
Through the app and the amenities provided at the Audi charging hubs, the companies aim to change charging time into a restful quality experience.
According to Vodafone, research shows that by 2030, there will need to be 6.8 million public charging stations to reach the EU’s goal of 55% CO2 for passenger cars.
