Indie gaming studio within Kunlun Group, Play For Fun has unveiled a new game that reimagines gaming with lifelike AI NPCs and user-friendly editors that make it possible for anyone to create their own games, even without complex programming skills.
Unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Club Koala allows players to create their dream world, a personalised island paradise with AI characters, mini-games and even AI-generated music thanks to the game’s innovative AI capabilities.
Club Koala is essentially a game that represents a new era of gaming where generative AI helps to create personalised experiences. Players can create their own virtual haven that fulfils their desires for creativity, friendship, education and more.
Fang Han, CEO of Play for Fun Studio, believes that AI will not only make games better but will improve daily life worldwide which will further expand the boundaries of the industry.
Enhancing player creativity
As the company aims to redefine how users experience PC and mobile gaming, some of Club Koala’s advanced features include:
- Island Construction: Players can easily change their avatars, create experiences, complete tasks and interact with AI characters in their dream worlds
- Koala Editor: Made using Unity3D, this editor lets players create user-generated content maps and games without needing to write any code
- UGC Mini Games: Customised challenges designed for a wide range of skills and ways of playing
- AI NPCs: The Atom AI System uses a mix of generative AI and the studio’s own technology. It lets NPCs learn from players, making interactions feel natural and smooth
These AI NPCs provide a lifelike gaming experience that fosters the growth of social and emotional skills. They also operate autonomously, adapting to player behaviour, offering personalised quests and contributing to intricate narratives.
By incorporating features like universal dialogue, text parsing and an AI NPC behaviour system, the game produces multiple storylines that mirror each player’s creativity.
The Club Koala Beta version is scheduled to be released on both PC and Mobile in the fourth quarter of 2023.
