Last summer, Nacon announced that it was developing a new Robocop game, Robocop: Rogue City. The publisher recently released a gameplay trailer for the game at the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2023. While the graphics might not be what players expect from big-name titles, the trailer is still rather compelling. Along with the trailer comes a new release date for the game: November 2nd, 2023.
The roughly one-and-a-half-minute trailer shows Robocop using his special visual abilities to follow blood trails (think The Witcher 3) and scan electronics to find malfunctions. The Robocop: Rogue City trailer also features epic-looking gun fights and Robocop taking out an assailant by throwing a motorcycle at him.
Turning up the 80s nostalgia
The first Robocop film was released in 1987 and starred Peter Weller as the titular character. Weller also voices Robocop in the new game, lending the title another level of authenticity. Robocop: Rogue City will feature a new narrative set in the Robocop universe.
“Welcome to Detroit; crime runs rampant, the city on the edge of ruin. As things descend further into chaos, you are the solution, a cyborg officer, Robocop. And it wouldn’t feel right without Peter Weller reprising this role,” Tweeted the game’s official Twitter account last summer.
Nacon is also making a game based on another popular franchise from the 80s. Terminator Survival Project is currently in early development. The game marks the first Terminator game set in the survival genre.
Gamescom 2023 announcements
Zack Snyder also showcased a trailer for his upcoming sci-fi film Rebel Moon at Gamescom. Additionally, Snyder announced that Super Evil Megacorp is developing a Rebel Moon game that will be exclusively available to Netflix subscribers. Beyond Robocop: Rogue City, a slew of other games were announced at the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2023. Games featured include Wild West FPS Soulslinger: Envoy of Death, top-down shooter AK-xolotl and dinosaur survival title Deathground.
