Early-stage venture firm Dispersion Capital has launched a $40 million fund to back foundational Web3 infrastructure after previously investing in 20 companies, with a majority receiving follow-on financing since the firm’s investment.
Dispersion intends to allocate its funds towards startups that aim to facilitate the adoption of new cryptocurrency users by utilising technologies such as upgraded data infrastructure, enhanced cybersecurity measures, and advanced smart contracts.
Patrick Chang, Dispersion Capital’s founder said, “Since 2021, thousands of talented developers have emerged in the web3 space, poised to build next-gen applications. However, their potential is limited by the immaturity of the infrastructure. Dispersion Capital aims to support the creation of robust and developed infrastructure beyond protocols and networks.”
Harnessing the power of blockchain
Chang, who is also a managing partner and an active angel investor with an established Web3 credential, has guided investments into a number of crypto companies, including Alchemy, Dapper Labs and Flow.
The firm’s founder went on to add that the firm aims to empower developers to create groundbreaking applications to harness the power of blockchain. “Just as ChatGPT captured the imagination of AI, we aim to bring that transformative moment to blockchain,” said Chang.
Dispersion Capital’s $40 million fund has garnered support from Web2 and Web3 pioneers including Faction, Lightspeed, Wemade, Circle Ventures, Ripple, Alchemy Ventures, Hashkey, Cherubic Ventures, Forte, NGC and individual GPs at venture firms and infrastructure executives.
The venture firm is focused on deploying capital into pre-seed and seed rounds. According to Chang, the firm has already deployed 10% of the funds.
