Artificial intelligence coaching startup trophi.ai has raised $3.3 million in VC funding as it aims to grow its platform which brings personal coaching to virtual motorsport racers and gamers across the globe.
This funding marks one of the largest seed financing rounds for a technology firm based in St. John’s and it’s worth noting that it has only been 16 months since the company was established in December 2021.
The startup is set to recruit 10-15 personnel, such as software developers, data scientists, product managers, game designers and marketing specialists for its new downtown office come Summer this year as it aims to increase its staff to a total of 40 by 2025.
AI-based coaching
trophi.ai founder Mike Winter said, “Our platform has the potential to give gamers and athletes a competitive edge at every level, by providing personal, AI-based coaching to weekend warriors, high-performance gamers and real-world elite athletes.
“Together, we are building a new model for coaching that will change how the world thinks about sports. We expect the next generation of champions will be trained on our platform.”
Winter’s previous experience inspired him to create trophi.ai to benefit everyone and provide job opportunities for local talent in his hometown.
“We’re building a world-class team here in St. John’s,” he said. “AI is an exciting and rapidly evolving field of innovation and we are thrilled to help Newfoundland become a leader in this space.”
The trophi.ai platform gained 10,000 users shortly after its alpha launch and is projected to amass 100,000 users by 2024.
The funding was led by venture capital firm Build Ventures with support from Concrete Ventures, and an international collection of angel investors.
