Meta launches Muse Spark for a ‘smarter and faster Meta AI’

The new model now powers the Meta AI app and website, before rolling out to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and AI glasses

Social media firm Meta has announced Muse Spark, the first in a new series of large language models (LLMs) from the company’s Superintelligence Labs. The ambition is to provide what it calls, “Personal superintelligence: an assistant that can help anyone, anywhere with the things that matter most to them.”

The new model now powers the Meta AI app and website, before rolling out to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and AI glasses.

The Meta AI app and meta.ai now offers multimodal responses, switching between modes for simple and more complex enquiries. These are called ‘Instant’ and ‘Thinking’ modes.

Input also extends beyond text prompts to include pictures and product scans. Meta is understandably keen to highlight this functionality for its AR glasses saying that, “It is the difference between an AI that waits for you to explain the world and one that can simply look at the world with you.”

Games and the next generation

Meta highlights its work with a team of physicians to develop the model’s ability to provide helpful information on common health questions and concerns, but it’s the gaming uses that interest us most. The company said in a blog post that, “Muse Spark excels at visual coding, letting you create custom websites and mini-games straight from a prompt. Ask Meta AI to build a dashboard for planning a big surprise party, spin up a retro arcade game to chase a high score, or launch a whimsical flight simulator — and share any of them with friends.”

Meta spent nine months rebuilding its AI stack ‘from the ground up’, claiming the progress is, ‘moving faster than any development cycle we have run before.’ After launch, Meta confirmed that work is already underway on the next generation.
