Artificial intelligence studio Inflection AI has released a new first chat-style AI called Pi (Personal intelligence). This AI is designed to be a supportive companion that’ll offer conversations, friendly advice and concise information in a natural style.
Unlike the many various AI systems we currently have (ChatGPT, Midjourney etc), Pi is not intended to write essays, program code or draw pictures; users don’t simply prompt it to do things. Rather, Pi was created to give people a new way of expressing themselves with a personal AI that they can trust.
Today we are announcing the release of the first version of @heypi_ai, your personal AI.

Pi stands for “personal intelligence” because it provides infinite knowledge based on your unique needs.

The Pi experience is intended to prioritise conversations with people. While other AI systems serve productivity, search, or answering questions, Pi is a coach, confidante, creative partner, or sounding board.
Mustafa Suleyman, CEO and co-founder of Inflection said, “Pi is a new kind of AI, one that isn’t just smart but also has good EQ. We think of Pi as a digital companion on hand whenever you want to learn something new, when you need a sounding board to talk through a tricky moment in your day, or just pass the time with a curious and kind counterpart.”
Impressive features
Pi’s standard web/text interface looks pretty cool and after spending some time with it, we’ve discovered the AI to be quite the conversationalist. Apart from having its own personal boundaries, users can even get it to say its advice out loud too.
A lot of AI systems simply generate a response to a question or request and await the next command. Pi, on the other hand, is curious and is eager to learn and adapt which helps it provide better responses in natural language.
“We really are at an inflection point. AI is going to be the most transformational tool of our lifetimes. What motivates me to work on Pi is that we will soon be able to provide a smart and helpful personal AI to millions of people around the world”
The company behind the new AI has also revealed that Pi is still in early development and can provide wrong information at times. “We have a lot to learn and a long way to go, but we are excited to bring this first version of Pi to people around the world,” Suleyman added.
Pi is currently available across platforms and you can check it out from the official website.
