Meta has partnered with the Stockholm-based immersive technology company Warpin Reality to bring interactive augmented experiences to Ikea stores across Sweden.
Named The Little Adventure, the AR-based game can be opened as a filter on the social media platform Instagram. The game aims to increase interest and knowledge of life in the ocean by allowing children to swim with various sea creatures and learn about them virtually.
In addition, it also teaches users about littering and pollution prevention, as all three companies involved aim to increase plastic recycling. The collection is inspired by the underwater-themed toys collection Blåvingad.
Augmented learning
Users across various Ikea stores can scan a QR code at stations to play the immersive game. It includes learning about marine life such as orcas, octopuses and sea turtles. Ikea Retail Sweden is the first retailer to explore the Meta SPARK AR solution on this large scale, featuring the campaign across 21 stores.
Marketing manager at Ikea Retail Sweden, Helena Gouiveia said “We are constantly exploring new ways to meet our customers. Currently, we’re doing so by developing a game for everyone looking for a fun experience for the whole family. The game is based on our collection Blåvingad, as well as children’s interests and curiosity, but also on their concerns related to our oceans. Thanks to the game, children can learn more about marine life and what happens under the surface while they are in our stores.”
Ikea is no stranger to using the power of augmented reality as the popular furniture store has its own AR Kreativ platform, which allows users to try before they buy. This feature makes it easy for shoppers to see what a furniture item would look like in their real-world space before committing to a purchase.
