The Immerse UK Awards works to connect students to the world of extended reality. The goal is to discover some of the best XR talents from within the UK.

These individuals can benefit from the awards by forging a path from academic learning to real-world problem-solving. The awards are a first-of-its-kind competition for students in the UK who are building innovative ideas and projects for the XR industry.

Extended reality, along with virtual reality and augmented reality is seeing wider adoption and higher projected growth. Big-name brands are climbing on board to explore the possibilities of extended reality such as Samsung and Apple. As the space continues to grow, it’s becoming a popular field to begin learning and developing for students.

Supporting XR development

Students will be able to submit their work to a panel of judges which consists of industry experts for a chance at winning various prizes. This includes the opportunity to interview with Arup and Edify for the two grand prize paid internship placements. Category winners prizes include a year of individually curated mentorship based on the their career goals and a Pico or Meta VR headset. These are just a few of the prizes up for grabs.

Applications opened in January 2023 and close on March 27, 2023. Applicants can attend a design workshop on 8 February to meet Arup and Edify and learn about the five categories for submission. Here applicants will also be able to hear what the judges will be looking for in the submissions. The first judging round is intended to take place from 3-17 April, with two finalists announced for each of the categories on 18 April.

Following this, the ten selected finalists will pitch to judges at a virtual Pitch Day on 25th April. These finalists will then have a private virtual interview with Arup and Edify over the following two weeks. All of the finalists can expect an invitation to London to showcase their work at the Immerse UK Award Reception. Here the five category winners and two grand prize internship winners will be announced.

Opportunities such as this are great for individuals to enter the next phase of their journey in this increasingly popular field.
