The NFL is bringing its Superbowl celebration to the metaverse. Recently, the NFL revealed its plans to host its first virtual Super Bowl concert. Roblox will host the show, which features Saweetie during Superbowl weekend. The rapper/singer’s avatar will mimic her movements using motion capture technology.
“I’m really excited to bring this iconic moment to the metaverse and share my music with a whole new audience in such a unique way! As an artist, innovator, and football fan, to be able to perform during Super Bowl LVII weekend in this new world — Rhythm City on Roblox — is something I never imagined that I would be involved in. I am very grateful and happy about this opportunity,” Saweetie says in a statement. “I can’t wait for fans to experience what we’ve created.”
Super Bowl concert
As of February 10, Roblox users will be able to experience the virtual concert in Rhythm City. Rhythm City is a music-themed roleplay experience within Roblox, created by Warner Music Group, which recently collaborated with the Sandbox for the Spinnin’ Records World’s Biggest Demo Drop event. After opening, the concert will repeat 31 times, playing once an hour until Super bowl Sunday.
Metaverse game developer Gamefam helped develop the Saweetie Super Bowl Concert, which is sponsored by Intuit. Both Gamefam and Intuit are involved in developing Super NFL Tycoon. Super NFL Tycoon is an upcoming simulation game within Roblox where players can live out their dreams of owning an NFL team. During the concert, participants will be able to move between Rhythm City and Super NFL Tycoon through a portal.
The NFL’s metaverse history
This isn’t the NFL’s first foray into the metaverse. In September, the NFL and Enthusiast Gaming came together to launch NFL Tuesday Night Gaming. The collaboration saw NFL teams competing in popular video games. Likewise, blockchain game, NFL Rivals’ lets fans act as general managers of an NFL team.
