If there’s one sports brand that’s really seeing the appeal of digital clothing and physical apparel-meets-NFT tie-in it Nike
Now the brand is set to launch its own new digital community and Web3 experience named .SWOOSH. The platform is said to serve the future of the sport by creating a new and inclusive digital space for Nike virtual creations.
Members of .SWOOSH will be able to collect virtual clothing and shoes which are intended to be interactive digital assets such as virtual shoes or jerseys that community members will be able to wear in digital games and other “immersive experiences”.
As to what form these immersive experiences include is, as of yet, unknown. It is however noted that in some instances .SWOOSH members will be able to also unlock physical access to real products or events, such as gaining an audience with athletes or designers.
Nike states that the platform aims to expand the definition of sports by democratising the Web3 space so that everyone can collect, create and own a piece of this new digital world.
Opening the way for a digital sports space
GM of Nike Virtual Studios, Ron Faris commented on the platform saying, “We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the Web3-curious. In this new space, the .SWOOSH community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together”.
Currently .SWOOSH is in beta and registration to join will happen later in November. Throughout the rest of this year, Nike intends to grow the platform by building its community base. The platform’s first digital collection won’t be available until 2023, however shortly after the first drop members will be able to enter a community challenge to win an opportunity to co-create a virtual product with Nike. Those winners will then be eligible to earn a royalty on the created product.
