Snapchat and Amazon are partnering up to allow Snapchat’s users the ability to try on various brands of glasses and sunglasses using augmented reality filters.
The partnership works in conjunction with Amazon Fashion which is attempting to find new ways to help customers shop for clothing in as hassle-free a way as possible. And given the personal and ‘must try’ nature of glasses and sunglasses it’s hoped that this innovation will go some way to push sales and ensure happy customers.
The new partnership will see brands from Ray-Ban, Costa Del Mar, Maui Jim, and others be made available for users to virtually try on within the Snapchat app.
Snapchat boasts 363 million daily active users, making it quite the platform for reaching audiences and potential new customers. Snapchat users will be able to find the new Amazon AR shopping lenses on the Amazon Fashion profile.
Try before you buy – virtually
With the Amazon partnership, users can browse through numerous glasses designs to find the one that they like best, this item can then be purchased in the Amazon Fashion store through a link. For now, glasses are the first type of item featured in the partnership however, both companies have stated they plan to expand in the future.
Snapchat is no stranger to playing host to these types of partnerships, its popular format for adding filters to pictures has been used in the past for beauty brands and cosmetics. Snapchat states that over the last year alone 250 million users have engaged with its AR shopping lenses more than five billion times. Given the high level of engagement, it would seem users are keen on the idea of using AR to try before they buy.
