Minecraft Hosts MyMetaStories Virtual Film Festival

Players can partake in quests that will teach them about the film industry

MyMetaStories is the first European film festival to be held within the popular video game, Minecraft. During the unique event, users can view 13 short films hosted within virtual movie theatres, beginning today (October 13th) until October 16th.

During the event, Minecraft players will also come across mini-games like Build Battle and Mob Arena, which are inspired by the short films. In addition to viewing short films and participating in mini-games, players can embark on MyMetaStories quests that will teach them about the film industry.

Minecraft is one of the most popular and well-known sandbox adventure games. Created by Mojang Studios, the game lets players create their own virtual world out of blocks. The game features pixel-style graphics and is currently the best-selling video game ever.

The 13 films featured during the event are currently available to view online via MyMetaStories.eu and on partner digital platforms. These videos will be available to view through October 29th.

A roughly minute-long teaser trailer for the MyMetaStories Minecraft experience was released on YouTube showing Minecraft avatars attending a showing at a cinema, among other things. “MyMetaStories is the innovative festival that shines a spotlight on new European cinema,” states the trailer’s description.

The Minecraft MyMetaStories experience is being relayed on TikTok and Discord. Additionally, each evening during the event at 8 pm (GMT+2), popular Minecraft Streamers will provide Twitch streams of the event. Streamers participating include Nihachu, Shadoune666 and The Guill84.

To access the Minecraft experience, users must first install Minecraft and the MyMetaStories launcher. Those interested can learn more and download the launcher by visiting the MyMetaStories website. The event isn’t the first film festival to take place in the metaverse. Fortnite hosted the Cannes Film Festival in 2022.
