Global Esports Federation Partners With UN Agencies To Empower The Gaming Community

As it aims to grow esports further, the GEF is looking to regenerate human connection through digital innovation

The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has joined the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as Official Supporter of SDG Digital

SDG Digital is a pre-summit event for the 2023 SDG Summit that aims to assess progress on digital development, identify challenges and opportunities, and mobilise action to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. As part of the SDG Action Weekend, the event focuses on scaling up digital solutions, including new High Impact Initiatives for sustainable and inclusive digital transformation.

This activity follows the GEF representing at recent UN and Commonwealth meetings in New York and London.

Connecting with the youths

Paul J. Foster, GEF CEO said, “As humans, we love to play games. Gaming and Esports exist in the digital world and are a big part of our daily lives and the global digital youth culture – it’s a fact. After years of distance and divide, it’s time to regenerate human connection through digital innovation.

“We are at a turning point with the Global Goals – success or failure. We need to connect with youth where they are and we need their help and leadership to lift the SDGs – from theory and innovation towards delivery and impact,” added Foster.

The GEF is also awarding the SDG Digital GameChangers Award for ‘Pioneers’ to recognise innovative digital solutions from young people. The award honours a young innovator aged 18-29 or a youth organisation that is leading the way with fresh perspectives and creative digital solutions to build a sustainable future.

In its commitment to further expand and grow esports, the GEF has identified several key Global Social Impact Initiatives (GSIIs) that the global gaming and esports community can support to make a significant positive impact on the world.
