Next-gen entertainment studio and Web3 technology platform Feature.io has brought in Suicide Squad writer/director David Ayer to write and produce its upcoming Web3 multimedia car racing experience titled Lollipop. Chris Long who produced Ayer-directed film The Tax Collector also has a role to play in creating Lollipop on the Ethereum scaling network Polygon.
Although many details are being kept under wraps regarding the project, we do know that Lollipop will involve Polygon-based NFTs, which Feature.io founder and CEO Steven IIous prefers to call “digital collectibles” due to the negative stigma surrounding the acronym.
Speaking with Decrypt, Ilous said, “We don’t really use the word NFTs. But there’s digital collectibles, there is a streaming narrative component, and there is gamification.”
An interactive media experience
The CEO also explained how he pitched the concept to Ayer who is also a fan of the technology. “I brought it to him as something that I felt could pioneer what future experiences could be,” Ilous said. “And he got it right away.”
However, Feature.io also shared that Lollipop isn’t exactly a video game, but more of an “interactive media experience.” It’ll be a project that will, “Combine elements of episodic streaming, gaming, and professional sports,” according to a statement.
So while we don’t know just what to expect for now, IIous has described Lollipop as an experience that’s built to grab hold of audiences via a hybrid media approach. “We’re trying to really create next-generation content that is built for how audiences are consuming content these days,” Ilous said.
And although it’s not clear how Lollipop will leverage NFTs, Ryan Watt, president of Polygon Labs, says the project is, “Truly pioneering.” Watt added, “Feature is spearheading the future of storytelling and utilising Polygon blockchain technology to create a completely new type of media.”
