Snapchat has teamed up with New Balance to integrate a voice-powered augmented reality that will help users with their shopping and gifting needs over the festive period.
By partnering up with New Balance and integrating VoiceML, voice prompts will guide users in discovering new and relevant products. The Balance lens will prompt the user into answering questions and then, rather than typing the user answers these questions using their voice. The results will then come back and offer a product suggestion. Depending on how the questions are answered this could lead to finding yourself a new product or even a gift for someone else.
This means that app users will have an extra helper this festive season when it comes to finding that perfect gift. SocialMediaToday shared a statement from Snapchat which noted that, “Once questions are answered, Snapchatters will have the ability to unveil the product recommendation with a unique unboxing experience”.
Snapchat’s AR future
Snapchat has already invested heavily in its AR capabilities, partnering with big-name brands such as Amazon to give users the chance to try items before they buy them. Disney also recently teamed up with the social app to use its lens features to promote the new Avatar movie. Snapchat is home to millions of users, so using the platform to integrate a more immersive and tailor-made advertisement experience seems like a perfect fit.
The app is expected to only be live in the US but will be accessible through December via the Lens Carousel.
