New York Cares, a non-profit volunteer organization has welcomed Web3 with open arms by selling NFTs to raise funds for an initiative that helps and supports local public schools entitled Stand with Students.
In a conversation with CoinDesk, Time president and New York Cares member Keith A. Grossman states, “In Web3, there is a desire and an intent for people to show that the space has tremendous good in it. Doing something like this is the best example to highlight the good.”
NYC’s collection will feature more than 16,000 digital NFTs created by Open AI’s DALL-E. Every one of them is inspired by different quotes from Winston Churchill that have been interpreted by 13 artists such as Frida Kahlo, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol.
New York Cares new Executive Director, Sapreet K. Saluja stated, “Historically, non-profits have relied on traditional fundraising efforts surrounding important initiatives such as Stand with Students. With new tools increasingly becoming available to reach and engage supporters, our goal is to ensure we maximize access to doing good within our great city.
People who signed up for Grossman’s “About Nothing” Allow List can mint their unique digital NFTs on aboutnothing.xyz for 0.05 ETH which is around $65 each.
Minting was open last Saturday at midnight ET. Individuals that are able to mint more than five NFTs will get a special airdrop from Pablo Stanley Humankind collection while holders of 10 pieces will receive the Pablo Stanley airdrop and one from Micah Johnson as well.
New York City Department of Education Chancellor David C. Banks said in a press release, “To ensure a bright future for our young people, we must collaboratively take a technologically driven approach to supporting our schools and our young people.”
The entire proceeds from both the first and second sales will be used to secure academic programs that’ll provide and enrich New York City schools with supplies.
