EA’s highly anticipated FIFA 23 launched in late September and didn’t take long to make its way to the top of the UK physical charts, outselling FIFA 22.
FIFA 23 sales have skyrocketed to 1.6%, compared to last year’s and although it might not seem like a significant increase, it’s a big win for EA after the franchise underperformed for two years in retail sales.
Sony consoles also lead the FIFA 23 sales this year with 41% going to PlayStation 5 owners and 30% purchased by PlayStation 4 users.
For other consoles, Microsoft’s Xbox One amassed 17% of sales, while Nintendo’s Switch and the Xbox Series both claimed 6%, making FIFA 23 launch sales on Switch 20% higher than it was with FIFA 22.
The game’s success in the UK surpassed that of Splatoon 3 and took over the top spot where it has remained for over three weeks.
The end of an era
This is the last game that Electronic Arts will brand with the FIFA name as the two parties cease their deal for 2023. Instead 2023’s EA soccer title will go under the name EA Sports FC going forwards.
With lots of new and interesting features such as the introduction of Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond as a playable team in the game, FIFA 23 is expected to sell more retail copies before next year.
