Controversial Canadian music artist Grimes has criticised Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg as “under-qualified” to spearhead the metaverse.
The singer took to Twitter to express her opinion by tweeting, “If Zuck ‘oversees the Metaverse’ it is dead and people who care about art and culture are building something else.”
Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, made the tweet as a response to a published article after the Meta CEO’s recent interview with Joe Rogan.
Apart from her music, Grimes is known to be a lover of Art and often dabbles in visual arts. In 2021 she sold a series of NFTs for more than $5 million. Grimes is also known for her love of sci-fi, fantasy culture and video games. She even stated recently that she wants to modify her ears to appear elf-like.
However, Grimes does not appear to be loving Zuckerberg’s metaverse from what she’s seen so far. The singer also criticised Zuckerberg’s recent avatar reveal.
Grimes tweeted, “This is bad art. The quality of this image alone speaks to how wildly under qualified he is to build alternate reality, literally every indie game looks better.”

The Meta CEO announced in late 2021 that he was focusing on creating a metaverse company. He went on to say that the metaverse, which he calls ‘the future of the internet, will be an all-encompassing world where people can interact via digital avatars, and recreate an office environment from home while wearing AR glasses or VR headsets.
Zuckerberg also noted earlier this year that his metaverse ambitions will see Meta lose “significant” sums of money for up to the next five years.”
Despite the criticisms, Zuckerberg’s metaverse plans are looking solid. However, VR communities such as Decentraland have also received its own share of criticism early this month when billionaire Mark Cuban said that virtual real estate is “the dumbest shit ever.”
