Amazon invests further in Anthropic, ‘up to’ $25bn

Ecommerce giant invests another $5 billion in the AI company now and up to an additional $20 billion in the future

Amazon and Anthropic have expanded their strategic collaboration, with the ecommerce giant investing $5 billion in Anthropic now and up to an additional $20 billion in the future. This new investment follows previous funding in the region of $8bn since 2023.

In return, Anthropic has committed to spending more than $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies over the next 10 years, including up to 5 gigawatts (GW) of current and future generations of Amazon’s Trainium chips to train and power their advanced AI models. This will ensure that Anthropic’s Claude Platform will be available on AWS, providing their full AI developer experience in one place.

Amazon said in a blog post that, “Over 100,000 customers run Anthropic Claude models on AWS, making Claude one of the most popular model families.” They go on to say that, “The two companies are also pushing the boundaries of what is possible with large-scale infrastructure, collaborating on Project Rainier—one of the largest AI compute clusters in the world.”

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said, “Anthropic’s commitment to run its large language models on AWS Trainium for the next decade reflects the progress we’ve made together on custom silicon, as we continue delivering the technology and infrastructure our customers need to build with generative AI.”

Claude’s popularity

In a separate post, Anthropic reports accelerated demand for its AI agent Claude in 2026 saying, “Our run-rate revenue has now surpassed $30 billion, up from approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. Growth at this pace places an inevitable strain on our infrastructure; our unprecedented consumer growth, in particular, has impacted reliability and performance.”

Anthropic CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei said, “Our users tell us Claude is increasingly essential to how they work, and we need to build the infrastructure to keep pace with rapidly growing demand. Our collaboration with Amazon will allow us to continue advancing AI research while delivering Claude to our customers.”
