The game developer behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams has won this year’s Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story or Comic. The comic takes place in Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City, which gamers can traverse in the video game. The comic was published by Dark Horse Comics and is available in print and digital formats.
Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams follows small-time thieves Mirek and Tasha as they attempt to survive the dangers of Night City.
“Tasha and Mirek make a living for themselves stealing cyberware and indulging in parties and braindances,” states Cyberpunk 2077 Big City Dreams’s official description. “Tasha is rowdy and wild–she seeks to up her street cred to become the most famous gangster in the city. Mirek, on the other hand, is a calm introvert–he longs for something more–meaning, belonging, warmth. He soon finds hope in an unexpected braindance. As he and Tasha chase their dreams, their paths begin to deviate.”
Bartosz Sztybor, who works as the comic book and animation narrative director for CD Projekt Red, wrote the comic’s story. Previously, Sztybor contributed to comics set in both the Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher universes. Likewise, Sztybor worked on the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime.
The comic’s art was created by Filipe Andrade and Alessio Fioriniello, with colours by Roman Titov and Krzysztof Ostrowski. Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams winning the Best Graphic Story or Comic award marks the first time a Polish author has won a Hugo award.
