The Roblox platform continues to expand as Creatures of Sonaria, one of the most popular games on Roblox will be adapted into a TV series.
Deadline reported that Wind Sun Sky Entertainment (WSS) is partnering with Productivity Media to adapt an episodic scripted series based on the widely known Roblox game.
Former Lucasfilm executive and current CEO and executive producer at WSS Catherine Winder and PMI founder William Santor commented, “As the partnership of PMI and WSS expands, we will continue to look for rich universes with cross-platform, immersive potential, like Creatures of Sonaria, to partner up with and extend into the kind of gamified storyworlds that global audiences and fans are looking for in the metaverse.”
Creatures of Sonaria coming to TV
Creatures of Sonaria is a survival game created by Sonar Studios and published by Twin Atlas. The game sees players fight to survive and explore different worlds filled with monsters, dragons and other creatures.
“I am very excited to work with Catherine, Jay and the innovative team of storytellers at WSS to add narrative depth to our characters and in turn further engage and delight our fans in a whole new way,” said Twin Atlas’s Samuel Garcia.
Jay Bennett, VP of creative franchise strategy at WSS will oversee the process of adapting the Roblox game into a narrative universe alongside Winder.
More adaptations to come
The success of previous video game adaptations such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mortal Kombat, The Witcher and HBO’s The Last of Us has inspired numerous networks and organisations to bring some of their most acclaimed video games to the big screen.
Although this doesn’t always end well, with fans being disappointed at the likes of previous adaptations such as Netflix’s Resident Evil, Assassin’s Creed and Tomb Raider.
However, The Last of Us is looking like the first of what could be a juicy and entertaining next couple of years for video game adaptations as we await the release of more titles including God of War, Ghost of Tsushima and Bioshock, alongside many other adaptations that are currently in the works.
