Last week’s Game Awards 2025 was dominated by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which took home wins in nine of the 30 categories. Hosted by awards creator Geoff Keighley, live from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on December 11th, award categories included Innovation in Accessibility (Doom: The Dark Ages), Best Esports Team (Team Vitality) and Content Creator of the Year (MoistCr1TiKaL).
Of most interest to us here at BeyondGames.biz was the award for Best Adaptation, ‘Recognizing outstanding creative work that faithfully and authentically adapts a video game to another entertainment medium.’ The award went to HBO and PlayStation Productions’ The Last of Us season 2.
Other finalists included A Minecraft Movie (Legendary Pictures, Mojang and Warner Bros), Devil May Cry (Studio Mir, Capcom and Netflix), Splinter Cell: Deathwatch (Fost, Sun Creature, Ubisoft and Netflix, and Until Dawn (Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions).
The awards also returned to Fortnite for a third time this year with its own Fortnite Island, where players around the world voted in-game for the Best Fortnite Island of 2025. The winner was Genesis Squid Game by genesisstudios (Map Code: 5581-8600-6431). The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite was developed by Nighttimes and Evil Eye Pictures.
