The very public fall of FTX and its former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, has been nothing short of a circus show. Bankman-Fried was brought up on fraud charges after his crypto company FTX failed and the brand’s questionable business dealings came to light. Now, Web3 studio Toonstar is creating a series, FORTUN3, that takes inspiration from Bankman-Fried’s fall.
“GM fam..” says Toonstar CEO and co-founder John Attanasio in a Tweet, “excited to announce our 4th interactive series in #web3 called FORTUN3, an animated satire ripped straight from the headlines inspired by some of the world’s most outrageous and dubious operators… because well, fact might just be stranger than fiction…”
FORTUN3 is an upcoming animated series that acts as an honorary origin story for FTX and its former CEO. The interactive Web3 series will premiere this fall. The main character is based on Sam Bankman-Fried and the series focuses on the crypto-bro culture that enabled him and his company.
“[The series] is based on a real-life cast of characters that lend themselves very well to cartoons,” Attanasio told CoinDesk. “We’re going to be taking the stuff that you see in the headlines and then bring that into the series.”
FORTUN3 experience to feature online game
FORTUN3 viewers can participate in a connected online game available through an NFT purchase. The game, which is set in the FORTUN3 universe, will involve a market that will be affected by the events of the series. However, Toonstar is yet to reveal any details about the gameplay. The company however believes this series will be its most mainstream yet.
“Through the narrative, there’s going to be a lot of universal themes that hopefully will appeal to [people] not more versed in crypto,” says Attanasio. “We also believe that entertainment can be one of the use cases that can help take Web3 mainstream.”
Actor and comedian T.J. Miller will voice the show’s protagonist. Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite) and actress Amber Rose will also provide voices for FORTUN3. Heder is the co-founder of Verified Labs, a creative agency that has partnered with Toonstar on various Web3 projects. Space Junk, which Heder also has a voice role in, is the two companies’ most recent collaboration.
