National Esports Championships Registration Is Open Now

Indian esports will also see the country’s top female athletes take on qualifiers for the CS:GO title

The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) has announced the dates of the National Esports Championships (NESC) 2023 to pick the Indian contingent for the 15th World Esports Championships in lași, Romania. Preliminary rounds for the national qualifiers are scheduled from March 14-19, with the Grand Finals set to begin on March 24.

The Esports Federation of India will also be conducting qualifiers for the country’s best female athletes in the popular competitive title CS:GO. Highlighting female players is important for the diversity of esports, as we are already witnessing a divide between genders concerning exposure and pay. Others are already attempting to combat this with the likes of the all-female League of Legends team, Hel.

The overall competition will see India’s proficient athletes compete across four titles, including CS:GO, DOTA 2, Tekken and eFootball.

President of ESFI, Vinod Tiwari spoke on the event saying. “This is set to be the biggest ever year for Indian Esports. Where the country will be competing for glory at the Asian Games, Olympic Esports Week, Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games, and the 15th World Esports Championships. ESFI is excited to not only witness the high pulsating action of the qualifiers but to also conduct these qualifiers for the country’s talented female athletes for the very first time and see them represent the country at the biggest Esports tournament on the globe.”

After NESC 2023, athletes will participate in the regional qualifiers, where they will battle competitors from other countries of the Asia and Oceania region. The dates for the regional qualifiers are expected to be announced soon. Organised by the International Esports Federation, the WEC 2023 will have a massive prize pool of $500,000 and is looking to be one of the largest editions of the tournament to date with over 130 participating countries. The global finals will occur from August 24 to September 4, 2023.

“The official recognition of Esports as a multi-sport event has brought about a paradigm shift that has kickstarted the golden era of video-gaming in the country. We wish all the athletes competing in the qualifiers the very best and are confident that they will make the country proud at the WEC 2023.” Said Tiwari

Registration for NESC 2023 begins today! With a closing date of March 10.
