Snap And Amazon Fashion Partner For New AR Shopping Experience

Taking mobile shopping to a whole new level

Snap, the company behind the popular social media app Snapchat has partnered with Amazon Fashion to provide Snapchat users with a new Virtual Try-On (VTO) experience.

Both behemoth companies are hoping that their combined strengths will attract many out of its 1.4 billion people that are estimated to use AR on their smartphones this year.

People are increasingly spending more time shopping with their smartphones while in the comfort of their homes or anywhere at all as Amazon Fashion customers have bought more than one billion fashion items with their phones.

Muge Erdirik Dogan, president of Amazon Fashion stated, “Amazon Fashion is always looking for new ways to collaborate with brands and create fun, innovative shopping experiences for customers. Millions of customers regularly use Amazon’s AR shopping technology across categories in our stores, with Virtual Try-On for Eyewear being a long-time customer favourite. We are delighted to partner with Snapchat and further expand AR shopping for both fashion brands and today’s new generation of digital shoppers.”

With the new VTO experience, Snapchat’s 363 million daily users will first of all have access to selected Amazon eyewear brands such as Costa Del Mar, Maui Jim, Persol, and Oakley. Although eyewear is the first VTO Shopping Lens category, both companies plan to add more categories later on.

Ben Schwerin, SVP of Partnerships, Snap Inc. commented, “With the combined innovation and technology between Snap and Amazon, we are unlocking exciting and fun new try-on experiences for hundreds of millions of Snapchatters. AR eyewear is just the first step in our partnership, and we can’t wait to continue our innovation together.”

The worldwide VR and AR technologies market is expected to reach $142.4 billion in 2023, a massive growth from $13.4 billion in 2018.
