Decentralised Social Platform Console Launches In Beta

Console intends to tackle the issues faced by other social media platforms and bring the Web3 community closer together

With the likes of Twitter undergoing change due to the Elon Musk takeover, various other social media platforms are stepping into the space. One such platform is Console.

Console is a new blockchain-based messaging platform that is hoping to attract crypto enthusiasts. It also aims to correct some of the problems that are more prevalent on other social media platforms such as fake accounts, spam, and misinformation. Since Console has a focus on crypto, it’s expected that privacy and data ownership will take a keen focus.

The platform began beta testing recently and dubbed itself the “evolution of group chat.” The platform looks to merge Web3 tools that will grant creators a greater ability to collaborate. Console offers similar features to that of the popular messenger app Discord, with some of the community comments on the site stating it is the “discord killer” and will act as its counterpart in Web3.

A Web3 space for networking

As reported by CoinDesk, Console was founded by entrepreneurs David Leiberman and Chris Castiglione, with the latter commenting that “today social platforms are broken. Console puts the power back into the hands of communities. Users control their identity, and communities can leverage this trust to improve coordination and engagement.”

Castiglione went on to say “We see Web3 as a movement that returns the internet back to its roots – to build apps that return the power back to the people. I believe that if we’re going to build a more democratic, free internet, then we need to build it on a foundation of tools that respect those values”.

According to Console, over 400 artists, non-fungible token holders, creators and musicians have already signed up for the platform. With users still unsure about their future on platforms such as Twitter and the ongoing search for alternatives, Console could provide a space for those looking for a decentralised social network.
