Web3 Social App Diamond Has Amassed 130,000 MAU After Launch

Ever since Tesla, and now Twitter CEO, Elon Musk took over the popular social media platform, numerous other social apps have been rumoured to become the new Twitter after some users decided to abandon the platform.

Now, Diamond has joined the list of Twitter alternatives as a decentralised app on the DeSo blockchain that’ll allow creators to post and store their social graph on the blockchain. This will also let users port their posts to any other app that’s built on the DeSo, giving account owners more control and ownership.

Nader Al-Naji, the founder of DeSo said, “Existing blockchains cannot store content efficiently. It costs about $50 to store a 200-character Tweet on Ethereum and about fifteen cents to store it on Solana, Avalanche, or Polygon. In contrast, DeSo is one ten-thousandth of a cent, making it the first blockchain capable of disrupting storage-heavy applications like social, blogging, and even marketplaces.”

As the twitter turmoil continues, Diamond will allow users to upload content on-chain rather than on private servers, which will ensure that a centralised platform such as Twitter wouldn’t have significant control over user content.

Decentralised control

Al-Naji added, “The DeSo wallet supports both a one-click Google login and a one-click MetaMask login. It’s not our goal to be tied to a single chain. We just want to allow people to connect no matter what ecosystem they’re a part of. DeSo is the unified social layer for all of web3.”

And due to limited storage capabilities and the cost of transactions, many believe that a blockchain version of Twitter is just impossible.

According to Salil Shah, COO of DeSo, “Diamond and other apps on DeSo offer a compelling solution. On Diamond, creators can build their social graph on the blockchain, so they wouldn’t be locked into a single app. It’s also great for consumers since they’ll be able to choose from among multiple apps to find the moderation policies that resonate with them.”

Although it appeals to founders, creators, builders and even some casual social media users, Diamond also has blogging functionality and various money-native features that creators can use to build, scale and monetize their content to audiences.
