K-Pop stars Blackpink Enter PUBG Battle Royale For New Music Video

Music and virtual worlds continue to merge

As part of their latest collaboration with acclaimed battle royale title PUBG Mobile, a new music video from K-Pop stars Blackpink shows the band dropping onto an island in battle royale style.

Blackpink’s new video takes place within the game’s world and features virtual avatars of the band as they sing in post-apocalyptic landscapes as well as ride motorcycles across abandoned highways.

The song is titled “Ready For Love” and was teased during the group’s virtual concert appearance.

Both the virtual concert and video follow in the footsteps of other in-game performances, notably in Fortnite, another popular battle royale game that has featured the likes of Ariana Grande and Travis Scott.

However, it also appears to be a way of elevating and merging music with virtual worlds. Riot Games, for instance, have multiple virtual music projects on its shelf, including the K-pop quartet K/DA and the hip-hop group True Damage, which releases albums and performs as holograms at live events.

Miquela, a virtual influencer once debuted a music video at Lollapalooza. Krafton Inc. on the other hand, has been teasing a virtual human named Ana that it hopes to turn into a pop star.

The collaboration between PUBG Mobile and Blackpink is far from over. The in-game concert is called “The Virtual” and has concluded and fans expect them to present another collaboration in the coming weeks.
