Screenless Display Market Projected to Reach $14.9 Billion by 2030

New display tech is on the way. And it’s going to be big

Breylon Ultra Reality

Valued at $1.9 billion as of 2020, the global screenless display market is projected to be worth $14.9 billion by 2030. The gaming industry, aerospace and defense sectors are expected to drive the market growth as they expand their use of screenless display technology.

Screenless displays offer a wider viewing angle, higher levels of contrast and brightness than a typical screen display and require less power to run. The technology also allows for faster interactive content viewing and better portability.

What Are Screenless Displays?

Screenless displays allow users to view and transmit data without the aid of a projector or screen. Such displays utilize interactive 3D projection and visual display technologies.

The pandemic negatively impacted the market, with manufacturing units worldwide having to shut down. However, it’s expected to pick up over the next few years as more products adapt to the technology. While screenless display tech is still in its infancy, several firms are in the process of getting patents for it.

Currently, the industry relies on visual image displays. While Brelyon showcased its headset-free virtual monitor earlier this year, XR gaming is still mainly supported through headsets and glasses. However, more and more gamers are demanding a personalized user experience, which may drive the gaming industry to adopt screenless displays – in many different forms – to heighten player experiences.

Additionally, the aerospace and defense sector is likely to contribute to the growth of screenless displays. Screenless displays can allow for efficient monitoring of aircraft movement. This tech will also provide both vertical and horizontal views and analyses of remote areas and potential battle zones.

Surgeons and other medical staff are already utilizing holographic technology to aid in diagnosis. Credit cards, banknotes and identification cards are beginning to adopt security holograms. Such innovations may be aided by screenless display tech, and various potential uses for the new tech have yet to be fully explored. Screenless display technology is expected to see the most significant growth in the United States in the next few years.
