The first metaverse hotel is opening in Decentraland. Dubbed M Social Decentraland, Millennium Hotels launched the virtual hotel on May 5th. To rent a virtual room at the hotel, users must pay with cryptocurrency.
Users can find M Social Decentraland near Genesis Plaza. The digital hotel boasts glass walls, neon pink accents and a large “M” on each side. Inside the lobby, guests will meet an avatar that will guide them through the hotel. Some lucky virtual guests will even win “real-world hotel surprises,” according to a press release.
“M Social is about being different, being one of a kind,” says Mr. Kwek Leng Beng, Executive Chairman of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Limited. “As we look towards the future, we need to look past the traditional model of hospitality and engage our guests through new immersive experiences. We hope to redefine hospitality through M Social Decentraland by creating online adventures that integrate with real-life events.”
At the virtual hotel, guests can find treasures and surprises. In the future, M Social Decentraland will host special events for holidays and other occasions such as Valentine’s Day. The hotel will also link to the company website in the future. Additionally, Millennium Hotels and Resorts will be in talks with like-minded partners about potential collaborations in the coming months.
“The hospitality landscape is rapidly evolving. We are embracing different technologies to engage customers and enhance guest experiences. The metaverse is one such avenue that presents a myriad of opportunities for us to create unique social connections with our guests,” said Group Senior Vice President, Commercial for Millennium Hotels and Resorts, Mr. Saurabh Prakash. “M Social Decentraland will enable us to reach out to new and existing customers in both the physical and virtual world with online connection to offline engagement.”
Metaverse Real Estate
While M Social Decentraland marks the first metaverse hotel, real estate transactions in the metaverse are nothing new. In December 2021, Republic Realm purchased virtual land in the metaverse for $4.3 million. Likewise, TerraZero Technologies Inc. provided their first metaverse mortgage earlier this year.
