Sony’s DualSense Edge Wireless Controller for PS5 Has a Weaker Battery than the Base Controller

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been quite a success so far, and the behemoth company continues to improve the console with new accessories, one of which is the new DualSense Edge Wireless Controller for PS5.

However after an in-depth hands-on review by The Verge, it turns out that the battery life of the DualSense Edge is weaker than that of the base DualSense controller.

Sony went on to confirm The Verge’s report after a spokesperson from the company stated, “The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller. We wanted to strike a good balance between wireless operating time and delivering robust, high-performance features.”

Sony did not reveal the battery’s weakness in the official PlayStation Blog post on the DualSense Edge Wireless Controller. The company went on to end its statement by reminding users that they’ll be getting a “longer USB braided cable” which is “also great for competitive players who prefer playing with a wired connection to avoid wireless interference – this option preserves battery life.”

Apart from being an unconvincing statement to sell individuals a £210 controller, PS5 owners who have used the base DualSense controller will notice a big difference in terms of battery life compared to the DualSense Edge Wireless Controller.

And of course, your controller’s battery duration will vary based on the sort of games you play and whether you’re using features like vibrations or you have your headphone plugged into the controller.

Sony’s DualSense Edge wireless controller for PlayStation 5 is scheduled to release on 26th January for £210 in the UK.
